Best homeschooling foreign language software?

by admin on March 15, 2010

I am homeschooled. I want to learn italian, what is the best software for me to use? I have already tried Rosetta Stone for French and I did not like it.

Rosetta Stone shouldn’t even be called curriculum…it’s really not. It’s meant to give adults working in Peace Corps or international business-type situations a working knowledge of basic phrases and vocab so they don’t appear completely clueless. It lacks sooo many things that anyone over the age of 7 requires to actually *learn* a language and become fluent.

If you prefer a software approach, I highly recommend Tell Me More from Auralog. It’s honestly the best I’ve seen, and the one my son will be using soon. Here’s a link: http://www.tellmemore.com/ Just click on "Homeschool" and you’re set :)

    Hope that helps!

Edit – oh please, glad to help :) It does look excellent, I’ve seen some versions of it and am looking forward to using it. Hope you like it!

I just wanted to follow up on the answer above. I have not personally used Tell Me More, but I just purchased it. It does look outstanding. There is currently a special on it if you buy it from the Homeschool Buyers Co-op.

    Here is a link:

The discount is good through 7/14.

HSMOMLOVINIT, given your background and recommendation, I am so excited that I decided to purchase this. I kind of did sight unseen, so you have made me not question the purchase…THANKS!

To learn Italian online, I advise you busuu (http://www.busuu.com). I’m currently learning spanish and italian thanks to it and I love it :) It’s a website where you find interactive lessons/reviews and you can train then with native speakers. Hope it will help you!

Rosetta Stone Homeschool French was mentioned here…I used it before, it did work to some extent. Anyways, I’m planning to use it again, but can’t locate the “STUDENT STUDY GUIDE”. Mine was version 2. Does anyone have this Student study guide for french?
    Thanks.
